BOV SEPA File Format Update

dakar news - BOV Bank of Valletta

Apr 7, 2025

As part of its alignment with international standards and to enhance payment processing efficiency, Bank of Valletta (BOV) have announced updates to their SEPA payment file structure.

The main changes introduced include the following:

Structured Postal Address:

The data element <AdrLine> can no longer be used;

The data elements <TwnNm> (Town Name) and <Ctry> (Country) are now mandatory;

Additional elements such as <StrtNm> (Street Name), <BldgNb> (Building Number), <BldgNm> (Building Name), and <PstCd> (Post Code) may be included as applicable;

Updated XML Namespace:

The document header must now reflect the following:
Document xmlns=``urn:iso:std:iso:20022:tech:xsd:pain.001.001.09``

The document header must now reflect the following:
Document xmlns="urn:iso:
std:iso:20022:tech:
xsd:pain.001.001.09"
on one line.

To address these requirements, we have already updated our SEPA file generation logic accordingly and submitted a revised version of our SEPA payment file to Bank of Valletta for validation and feedback.

Next Steps

We are currently awaiting confirmation from BOV regarding the compatibility of the updated file. Once validation is complete and the update is officially released, we will provide further communication to guide clients on the required steps, including any necessary system updates and testing procedures.

We would also like to remind our clients of the upcoming testing window provided by BOV, which runs from 15th March 2025 to 15th June 2025.
During this time, you may submit test files directly to customerfiletesting@bov.com.
